Ive recently had to remind myself to slow down AGAIN. It can be really hard for some us. Some people are born slow and some are just fast- thats me, and look, i like it! i do love being ultra organised and incredibly driven, however the burn out will always come back if we are not mindful of this. My goal is to truly embody a slower life while im raising small children and not get caught up with rushing womans syndrome. It makes me grumpy andtired. Its a fast -paced world, where hustle is glorified and productivity comes with a big WINNERS badge. Have we truly lost the art of slowing down? It seems more like a fad now, with buzz words flying around like "slow living" and "slow girl era" it cant be a lost art. The thing is, woman need it. We need rest more than anyone. We have to create the boundary that suits us, not the other way round. constant commitments, constant connectivity. There is great importance in taking a step back, breathing deeply, and truly savoring the moments that make life meaningful or we honestly do miss it.
The Rushing Epidemic
We live in an era where speed is celebrated—fast internet, fast food, fast success. The pressure to constantly move forward can leave us feeling really out of breath, never truly appreciating the present moment. Our minds race ahead, juggling to-do lists and future plans, while our bodies struggle to keep pace. We have to step back and reflect- life does end for all of us. We must take time (and plenty of it) to relish. I noticed in Europe they just relish! Guilt free! We have to take ourselves out of the rush to actually live well. I believe there is a time to put the foot on the gas and go, i have done this plenty of times and it has brought me success, but we need to live more seasonally. To be slow when called and to speed up when the natural energy for it is there.
Finding Beauty in Simplicity
Slowing down isn't just about doing less; it's about experiencing more. It allows us to reconnect with ourselves and the world around us. When we slow down, we notice the small details we often overlook—the gentle rustle of leaves, the warmth of a morning sunbeam, the genuine smile of our children. These simple moments hold the essence of life's beauty. Its got to come first.
Mindful Living
Mindfulness plays a crucial role in slowing down. Its not just a buzz-word, and believe me, we are all sick to death of the constant "buzz words". When we are mindful, it encourages us to be present in each moment, free from distractions and worries about the past or future. I have a few rituals to get my fast mind calm, meditation, journaling, walking or simply taking a few minutes to breathe deeply, i get to actually stop and feel a deeper appreciation for the richness of everyday life. A lot of woman come into the clinic to actually just rest.
Health and Well-being
The benefits of slowing down extend beyond mental clarity; they impact our physical health as well. Chronic stress, often a byproduct of our hurried lifestyles, can lead to a host of health issues. Taking time to relax and enjoy life can lower blood pressure, improve sleep quality, and boost our immune systems—a testament to the profound connection between body and mind.
Nurturing Relationships
In our often never-ending feat for achievement, we canneglect the relationships that matter most. Slowing down allows us to invest time and energy into nurturing these connections. Whether it's sharing a meal with family, catching up with friends over coffee, or simply being fully present during a conversation, these moments foster bonds that enrich our lives immeasurably. I have found having fewer friends and deeper connections really helpful.
Embracing Balance
Slowing down doesn't mean abandoning ambition or drive, it's about finding a balance that honors both our goals and our well-being. When we learn to pace ourselves, we become more resilient and better equipped to navigate life's challenges with grace and clarity. We slow down to speed up.
In a world that values speed, more money, more of everything basically, lets try and add more time? the art of slowing down is a radical act of self-care and appreciation for where you are and what you have now. It allows us to reclaim our time, rediscover our passions, and forge deeper connections with ourselves and our close ones. So, amidst the chaos of daily life, let's remember to pause, breathe, and embrace the simple joys that make life truly worth living. As we slow down, we might just find that the most fulfilling journey is the one we take at our own pace. We dont have to keep up. We can find balance and live more with the seasons.
Let's cherish each moment, when we value slowing down, we discover the true essence of life itself. We don't miss the point.
