What are the different roles? Let chat.
Hi 👋
It’s me, Mary 👱🏻♀️
I’m a dermal therapist - Lets discuss the actual role and main responsibilities of a dermal therapist, nurses & Doctors 🥼
Dermal therapists are are highly trained in skin anatomy and physiology. This allows me to specialise in a wide range of non-surgical treatments to aid clients in many areas such as , skin disorders, anti-aging and skin integrity management. Treatments include laser and light based therapies such as LED, IPL hair removal and photo-rejuvenation. Electrotherapies such as electro-epilation, diathermy and epidermal resurfacing procedures such as chemical peels and percutaneous collagen induction, otherwise known as skin needling. Dermal therapists often work in clinics along-side aesthetic surgeons, dermatologists and nurses, they also have the option to work independently.
Cosmetic Nurse 👩🏼⚕️
A cosmectic nurse is trained in two areas, that being a registered nurse and a cosmetic nurse having completed a post graduate qualification in cosmetic nursing and dermal therapies. The role of a cosmetic nurse has grown and evolved over the years allowing nurses to provide injectable treatments such an anti- wrinkle relaxers and dermal filler, theatre nursing and all non-surgical dermal therapy procedures. Nurses are able to manage pre and post operative care. conduct surgical and non-surgical consultations and other surgical and medical cosmetic procedures. Cosmetic nurses often work heavily alongside aesthetic surgeons, doctors, dermal therapists in private clinics and hospitals.
Medical Doctor 👩🏼⚕️
To work as a cosmetic physician or medical doctor, one must have completed a degree in medicine and have extensive knowledge in all areas of the clinic. Cosmetic physicians have many roles at a much higher and more invasive level than nurses or dermal therapists and will often run or own the clinic and act in a supervisors role for nurses and dermal therapists. It is the medical doctors role to provide cosmetic medical procedures such as injectables; both permanent and semi-permanent, minor surgical procedures including skin lesion removal and liposuction and will have extensive knowledge of dermal therapies.
